30,000ft sculpture for Ross town centre

The first meeting of the ‘createRoss’ cultural partnership group took place last week (16th November).  createRoss has been set up to feed ideas into the City of Culture 2021 bid which Herefordshire is applying for. The Group agreed that at present there is no overall strategy for the arts in Ross-on-Wye. There is a plethora of artistic talent and art groups in the town’s catchment area and they would all benefit by getting together to promote a unified front for the arts in Ross. ( There are links to many of their websites on the playross.com arts page ). Before a strategy is developed, of course, you need the vision of what to aim for. In the first instance, ideas are needed for the City of Culture bid, so it was decided that there should be an open callout (this is it) to artists and creatives to suggest ideas – the grander the better. A 30,000ft Sculpture for the town centre is NOT one of the ideas, but we do want to encourage artistic schemes that are innovative, unusual and FUN. So – If you would like to be involved, or want to suggest an idea for inclusion, please email William at playross@mail.com The next meeting of the group will be early December, when a list of ideas will be compiled to send to the Herefordshire Cultural Partnership for inclusion in the Bid. The closing date for the Herefordshire application is the 17th of Feb 2017, so there is no time to waste.
