Ross-on-Wye’s gastro chefs cooking up a storm

With the recent news that three restaurants in and around Ross-on-Wye are featured in the newly released AA Restaurant Guide 2023 – and a total of just six Herefordshire restaurants making the grade – Ross-on-Wye Tourism Association has launched its first Meet the Chefs Guide showcasing nine talented local chefs who have established themselves in the area at a variety of different pubs, restaurants and hotels.

It’s no surprise that visitors flock to Herefordshire to sample its wonderful cuisine – and with a plethora of fantastic local produce to choose from, chefs in the area are spoilt for choice. The three successful Ross-on-Wye establishments which achieved rosettes are Glewstone Court Country Hotel (two rosettes), The New Inn located 3 miles away at St Owen’s Cross (two rosettes) and The King’s Head Hotel in the heart of the town (one rosette). The three other Herefordshire restaurants included in the AA Restaurant Guide are The Riverside at Aymestrey (two rosettes), The Feathers in Ledbury (one rosette) and the Saracens Head Inn in nearby Symonds Yat East (one rosette).

Rosettes are awarded based on the AA Inspectors’ experience during their visit – including the standard of food, the quality of ingredients and the care and attention afforded to the menu. One rosette is given to establishments which stand out in the locality and two rosettes are awarded to the best local restaurants which aim for and achieve higher standards, better consistency, greater precision in the cooking and obvious attention to the selection of quality ingredients.

David Callinan, PR Officer for the Ross-on-Wye Tourism Association, interviewed the nine chefs to find out more about their background, their stand out dishes and what drives them to continually achieve the high standards they’ve set themselves. All chefs clearly have their own unique style which is reflected in their menus – however the overriding message was clear: local produce and high quality ingredients were absolutely key in ensuring consistent standards which attract visitors back time and again.

The nine restaurants included in the Meet the Chefs Guide are Avellino, Glewstone Court Country House, No 3, Orles Barn, The Hope & Anchor, The King’s Head Hotel, The Loughpool, The Man of Ross Inn and The Royal. More restaurants will be added to the guide in due course and if you are a local chef and would like to be included please get in touch by emailing info@dc-pr.com.
